The .doc version will allow you to enter your sightings on your computer but requires you to download it and “Enable editing.” The .pdf version will need to be downloaded, printed out and entries added manually.

SAINT LUCIE AUDUBON SOCIETY 70TH ANNIVERSARY BIRDING CHALLENGE

A.      BIRDING CHALLENGE

o   The challenge runs from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024.

o    A birder (SLAS member) must find 70 different species of birds in St. Lucie County to complete the challenge.   Some species are common and others will be tougher to find.  The species may be either heard or seen.

o   All results must be received by St. Lucie Audubon by 12/31/24.

 

B.      BIRDING CHALLENGE RULES 

o   You must be a current SLAS member.  If you achieve the challenge you will receive a free t-shirt.   If you have a family membership, a maximum of two t-shirts will be issued per family membership.   Each family member must get their own 70 species.

o   Pick up a birding challenge entry form at an Audubon Meeting at Oxbow Eco Center or get a form from the SLAS website.  Or you may just keep your tally on e-bird and take a screen shot of your tally in St. Lucie County Florida.

o   Only one entry will be accepted per individual.  If you have more than 70 species, please submit them at the same time.

o   T-shirt sizes will be unisex (more of a man’s size).   The sizes available are: S, M, L, XL, and XXL.

o   Shirts will be handed out to challenge winners at the Oxbow Eco Center at SLAS meetings only.   All meetings are held the first Thursday of the month from 7pm to approximately 8:15 p.m.   Meetings are held October thru May.  You may also just keep your tally on E-bird and take a screen shot of your tally in St. Lucie County, Florida.  No shirts will be shipped due to the high cost of shipping.

o   Most importantly, follow the rules of good birding practices by looking at the National Audubon’s Guide to Ethical Bird Photography and Videography.  This link can be found at:  https:www.audubon.org 

 

C.      SUBMITTAL OF FORMS VIA WRITTEN DOCUMENTS 

o    Pick up a birding challenge entry form at an Audubon Meeting at Oxbow Eco Center or get the form from the SLAS website. 

o    For each bird species you find complete the info on the written entry form.

o    You may give the completed entry forms to a board member at the monthly meeting at the Oxbow Eco Center or you may email the form to this email address:  st.lucieaudubonfieldtrips@gmail.com.   The last date for submittal is December 31, 2024.

o   For each bird species you find, complete the info on the entry form.

o   Illegible entries will not be counted.

C.  SUBMITTAL OF FORMS VIA E-BIRD    

o   All challenge winners should submit their e-bird tally for St. Lucie County, Fl.    You may take a screen shot of your e-bird results or show it to a board member at the monthly meeting.  Or you may send it via e-mail to: st.lucieaudubonfieldtrips@gmail.com.  

o   Only one entry will be accepted per individual.  If you have more than 70 species, please submit them at the same time.   They must be clearly marked with the participants’ name and information.

o   Please denote the size of t-shirt you would like in your e-mail.
